With the national elections taking place tomorrow (7 May), it will be not only a time of looking forward in order to decide South Africa’s political future, but also a time of reflection and remembrance. 1994’s national elections saw Nelson Mandela casting his first democratic vote at the Ohlange Institute in Inanda. 20 years on, Ohlange High’s recent Mafukuzela Week, held in honour of the institutes’s founder, John Dube, included tributes to Nelson Mandela and his legacy. Both this historical institution and its founder feature on our Inanda Writers Trail.
