Update: KZN Literary Tourism Diversity Campaign

Update: KZN Literary Tourism Diversity Campaign

On 3 March KZN Literary Tourism embarked on a diversity campaign in order to create better representation of minority writers within the archive. Launched during the Time of the Writer festival, the campaign was influenced by the dialogue on the decolonising of literature and the inclusion of marginalised voices that emanated from the festival.

The project is proud of the attention our efforts have raised. Authors like Pamela Power (Ms Conception) have thrown their support behind our initiative. The campaign has also drawn the attention of several news outlets. We were featured on the websites of Pen South Africa (link), The Luvvie (link) and artSMart (link). The project appeared in the Daily News on 14 March (pictured). Additionally, KZN Literary Tourism’s project head, Lindy Stiebel, appeared on the SAFM’s Literature Show where she discussed the project and the aims of our campaign with Nancy Richards.

Several writers have approached the project and we are excited to feature them this year.

KZN Literary Tourism acknowledges that the decolonisation of literature is an on-going process and we affirm our stance in celebrating all creative fiction writers playing a part in our province’s rich literary history.
