New Zealand Young Writers Festival

New Zealand Young Writers Festival

Invitation to writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature

What: The New Zealand Young Writers Festival (NZYWF) is an annual four-day programme of workshops, panel discussions, performances and other events by and for young writers (aged 15 – 35). It covers a broad range of modes, from poets and playwrights to journalists and essayists; we celebrate wordsmithing in all its glorious forms.

Where: The NZYWF is held in Dunedin, New Zealand, UNESCO City of Literature.

When: Provisional dates for the sixth festival are Thursday 1st – Sunday 4th October 2020.

Who: We warmly invite writers in our UNESCO sister cities to submit an expression of interest to present material in the 2020 NZYWF. Although we can’t subsidise your airfare we will provide accommodation and a modest stipend to cover expenses while you are visiting our beautiful city.

I’m interested, what next: Email your expression of interest and/or and questions to Gareth McMillan director@dunedinfringe.nz. EOIs should include a short proposal detailing your concept for an event, and why you think it would appeal to the target demographic. It might be a workshop, social event, discussion, reading – anything that captures the literary zeitgeist and would appeal to other young writers.

It should also include any material and technical requirements, and a brief personal bio. Succinct supporting material may be included. Content should be presented in English, although this is not a requirement of the source material.

We may be able to provide a letter of support to assist you to obtain funding to cover your travel and other expenses – please contact Gareth to discuss this.

Deadline: 15th February 2020.
