Litetary Tourism in Portugal with Hans Christian Andersen and Lord Byron

It is great to see that literary tourism is growing and that people are doing exciting things with the cultural and literary capital around them.  The team at Moonluza in Portugal have been working on tours similar to our own Alan Paton and Rider Haggard trails.

Moonluza is a cultural tourism company based in Portugal and is currently developing a cycle of projects and events called Portugal through Foreigners’ Eyes. This projects allow the participants to discover Portugal from a historical perspective of a celebrity that visited Portugal in the past.

The first tour on offer is the is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s journey through Portugal in 1866.  It is an initiative that allows participants to experience Portugal through the eyes of the Danish ‘Father of fairy-tales’

Th tour offers a visit to Sintra, Lisbon, Setubal, Palmela, Aveiro and Coimbra. It is enriched by cultural elements, including a mini-guide based on Andersen’s quotations and observations and offers an insight to Portuguese gastronomy and culture.

The second tour is still in development and is devoted to Lord Byron and the town of Sintra, which Byron visited in 1809.
