Australian photographer, Adrian Steirn’s 21 Icons project is currently in its second season and “seeks to celebrate those who have achieved success and widespread recognition, as well as individuals whose work has been conducted without prior acclaim”. The unique project combines fine-art portraits, short films, behind the scenes photography, written narrative and a feature length documentary. Two such South Africans are KZN Literary Tourism featured authoresses; Celebrated storyteller and founder of the Nozincwadi Mother of Books literacy campaign, Gcina Mhlope, and political activist, Pregs Goveneder. The book was launched recently at Love Books in Johannesburg with both Stein and Mhlope in attendance.
