In Remembrance of Lewis Nkosi

Lewis Nkosi is buried in Stellawood Cemetry. Lewis was one of the Drum Writers of the 50’s and an internationally award winning South African journalist, essayist, novelist & dramatist. He was in exile in Africa & Europe and returned to South Africa in 1991. He passed away in 2010.


His production, The Black Psychiatrist, was staged by DUT in Durban last year featuring Liesl Coppin and Ntando Mncube, directed by Debie Lutge.

Prof Astrid Starck-Adler, the widow of Lewis Nkosi will be travelling from France to attend the unveiling of the Stele on Saturday.


The Unveiling of Lewis’ stele, made by Durban sculptor Andries Botha, will take place this Saturday (April 26) at 1 pm, at Stellawood Cemetery. The grave is located on Terrace T 56.

At the main entrance, in front of the cemetery office, somebody will be on hand to help direct visitors to the place.
