KZN Literary Tourism was invited to participate in the FLF this year – Lindy Stiebel spoke twice to interested audiences about the literary trails in the Screening Room (next door to Le Quartier Francais for good food!). The trails she took down were all eagerly taken up and she was interviewed for SAfm. Other KZN linked writers featured at this year’s FLF were Kobus Moolman and newcomer Shubnum Khan whose debut novel Onion Tears which was shortlisted for the Penguin Prize for African Writing, plus Imraan Coovadia and Barbara Trapido. Khan, Coovadia and Trapido took part in a discussion panel called ‘Durbs By the Sea’. The main organiser of the Festival is Jenny Hobbs who is featured on the Midlands Writers Trail as she went to school at St Anne’s, Hilton – so there’s another KZN connection! Read her latest book Kitchen Boy (Umuzi) which is just out.
