As mentioned last month, project leader Lindy Stiebel has a new book out, Thomas Baines: exploring tropical Australia 1855 to 1857, edited with Jane Carruthers. To celebrate the launch we will be visiting Thomas Baines’ grave at the Central Cemetery in the Durban CBD at four this afternoon.
For the less adventurous, we will be meeting at Ike’s in Florida Road for an informal launch and celebratory drink from around five.
Literary Tourism is tourism that deals with places and events from fictional texts as well as the lives of their authors. This could include following the route a fictional character charts in a novel, visiting particular settings from a story or tracking down the haunts of a novelist.
