Interesting article on the The Witness, about Heather Hughes’ biography of John L. Dube:
JOHN Langalibalele Dube was the first president of the ANC, creator of the Ohlange Institute, and founder of the newspaper I langa lase Natal. He was also a farmer, a congregational clergyman, and a big-game hunter. The only thing lacking about his life was a biography. Now, 65 years after his death, that gap has been filled by Heather Hughes with The First President — A life of John L. Dube, founding president of the ANC, launched at the recent 23rd Biennial Conference of the Southern African Historical Society in Durban.
